What is Biblical Counseling?

Biblical counseling holds the Word of God as authoritative, sufficient and necessary to create lasting hope and help in the lives of God’s people. Biblical counseling desires not to just change the follower of Christ’s OUTWARD actions, but their INWARD heart attitudes. As a person’s inward spiritual heart begins to change through the transforming truths of God’s Word and power of the Spirit of God, it is then that their outward actions and behaviors will begin to experience lasting change.

What To Expect

  • Once you have been paired with your lay counselor, you can expect to meet with them for regular one hour sessions. Average length of sessions can be six to twenty sessions. This can be more or less depending on the level of care that the client may need.

  • We do suggest that you bring a Bible and a notebook to each counseling session. At your initial triage appointment with In-Step, you also will be given a pre-counseling binder full of additional material and information.

  • We do not want to have financial hardship stand in the way of someone receiving the counseling they need. However, for those who have both the ability and the desire to contribute to the work of this ministry, a $25 one time donation for resources and your pre-counseling binder is appreciated at your initial appointment.

Lay Counselors

The lay counselors at In-Step Counseling Center are trained according to the standards found at the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC) or the International Association of Biblical Counselors (IABC). While not all of our counselors are certified with ACBC or IABC, all of our counselors are supervised by those with an ACBC certification. Our counselors are NOT certified with the State of Ohio.
